There aren’t many reasons to be positive about Newcastle United right now, but Bruno Guimaraes went out of his way to congratulate Park Seung-soo on his debut.
Seung-soo delighted Newcastle United fans with a brief cameo against Team K-League on Wednesday as Eddie Howe’s side fell to another pre-season defeat.
Newcastle were largely dreadful in their 1-0 loss in Suwon, which only added to the profound sense of misery this summer is causing.
The club continue to miss out on transfer targets, while their best player in Alexander Isak is seemingly doing all he can do to leave the club on the worst terms possible.
It’s all rather bleak right now but Seung-soo‘s lively debut was something to hold onto at least.
Indeed, Guimaraes was impressed.

Bruno Guimaraes congratulates Park Seung-soo on Newcastle United debut
Not long after the game had finished, Guimaraes – who didn’t play during the game – took to social media platform Instagram.
The Brazilian reposted a clip of the teenage forward beating a number of defenders during an impressive dribble and captioned the post on his Instagram story: “Well played my friend.”
Guimaraes also congratulated young goalkeeper Max Thompson on his debut, after he replaced Nick Pope in the second half.
What could happen to Park Seung-soo at Newcastle United next season
Speaking on Tuesday, the Newcastle United manager confirmed the club are still to make a decision on the South Korean forward.
“I think it’s slightly unclear what’s going to happen short-term with him – we’re going to have to make an assessment on where we see him fitting in the best currently,” said Howe.
“We’ve had only a very short term impression, one or two training sessions. It’s been very positive so far – he seems like a very good person, fundamentally, and it’s all new experiences for him but I’m sure he’ll do very, very well. We’re very keen to look at this as a future market for us, signing a similar profile of player, so this is hopefully the start.”
It’s hard to imagine the club suddenly thinking he’s ready to start the Premier League season based off one cameo in pre-season.
Still, it’s at least promising to see a fresh face doing well for Newcastle. There have not been many of them to get excited about in the last few years.
Seung-soo looks an exciting talent. Hopefully, at some point, supporters get to see him in regular action in their first team.
