Bruno Guimaraes is ‘sure’ joining Newcastle was the right decision

Bruno Guimaraes took a risk in joining Newcastle United in January, but the midfielder is now very happy with his decision.

The Brazilian was the marquee arrival at the start of the year – the only player to sign for Newcastle who had no prior experience of Premier League football.

Eddie Howe wanted players who knew the league in his bid to avoid relegation, but Bruno was different. In that respect, the Magpies took a risk in moving for the midfielder.

However, there was no way Newcastle could miss. Bruno signed for the club from Lyon for £35million, and quickly established himself as a hero on Tyneside.

His early performances had top teams wondering why they hadn’t signed him, as Newcastle’s new number 39 distanced his new employers from the bottom three.

The 25-year-old’s decision to join the Magpies was paying off, when it very easily could have been a disaster.

While Bruno is at the World Cup right now with Brazil, that was not a guarantee at the start of the year. Bruno swapped leagues and joined a relegation threatened team in January, putting his place in Tite’s squad at risk.

What would have happened if Newcastle had gone down? What if he hadn’t settled in the Premier League? That could have resulted in Bruno missing the World Cup.

Luckily, Newcastle did not to go down and Bruno settled very easily into Premier League life. Now he is a star on Tyneside, and has been reflecting on his decision to move to the North East of England.

Bruno Guimaraes on joining Newcastle

The former Athletico Paranaense man has been speaking to Spanish outlet AS, and was asked about his move to St James’ Park.

“The club’s project is huge,” Bruno said.

“We verify daily that it is a job done with love and care. We have goals to meet and trained professionals in all areas. The club is evolving as a whole. Only the complete organization will allow the individual part to appear. 

“I’m sure I made the right decision to come to Newcastle.”

What a decision it was

There is no doubt in our mind that Bruno made the right decision to come to Newcastle. He took a risk – one that many other players weren’t willing to take.

That is why he has such a special connection with the Toon Army. Combine that with his wonderous displays in midfield and he’s on his way towards legendary status inside St James’ Park.

As Bruno says, this is a huge project at Newcastle right now. And he is a huge part of it. The Club need players who can go on this journey, and he certainly fills that description.

The likes of Bruno, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak are going to be the spine of this team in the coming years. As the song goes, one of them’s in the middle, one at the back and another in attack – and apparently Newcastle are eventually going to win the Premier League.
