Anthony Gordon was given a Harry Potter inspired nickname by Jacob Murphy at the weekend, and now Bruno Guimaraes has offered up an alternative.
After Sunday’s win over Manchester United, Gordon took to Instagram to celebrate the result. It prompted a response from Murphy, who likened his Newcastle teammate to Harry Potter character Draco Malfoy.
The 28-year-old referred to Gordon as ‘starboy Malfoy’ in reference to the winger’s bleach blonde hair. It’s a brilliant nickname, and probably a lot nicer than what the Toon players used to call Gordon when he played for Everton.
But now he is a Magpie, and has been given two new nicknames in the space of a week.
Anthony Gordon’s new nickname
Just like after the Man United game, Gordon toasted the win over West Ham with a message on his official Instagram account.

There was once again a reply from Murphy, who continued with the Harry Potter theme.
He wrote: “Expelliarmus bro.”
However, there was also a message from Bruno, who has come up with a different nickname for the January recruit.
He wrote: “Gorditooooo.”
On the face of it, it is merely an adaptation of his actual name, but the translation from Portuguese to English is absolutely brilliant. According to Google Translate, Gordito is the Portuguese word for chubby. So Bruno has just called his new teammate fat…
Bruno’s last nickname was much better
Gordon is not the first player to receive a nickname from Bruno, even if it is far from complimentary – albeit inadvertently.
The Brazilian also christened Joe Willock with a new name recently. Following the win against Wolves, Bruno called Willock ‘Willockinho’, which the 23-year-old apparently loves. I mean it’s a lot better than accidentally being called chubby!
It’s a good job Bruno is a better at football than he is coming up with nicknames. I doubt ‘Gordito’ is going to stick, but it looks like Murphy is going to keep up with the Harry Potter references every time he comments on Gordon’s Instagram.
Hopefully we see some magic from the £45million on Saturday against Brentford.
