Newcastle United’s sensational winning streak came to an end after they were well beaten by Aston Villa.
The Magpies had won six straight games and went into the match at Villa Park with confidence sky high. However, Unai Emery’s lively Aston Villa side proved to be too much for Newcastle United, who conceded four on Saturday.
Newcastle’s loss to Aston Villa was just one of several things that went wrong for them this weekend. Results elsewhere meant they lost their five-point gap to sixth place in the Premier League, with Manchester City and Chelsea also picking up wins.
It could still get worse for the Magpies as Nottingham Forest take on Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night. If Forest wins, they will overtake Newcastle to third in the league.

Joelinton looked scared in Newcastle’s loss to Villa. That is according to Pat Nevin, who believed the Brazilian was reluctant to go in for tackles like he usually is after being booked in the first half. Elsewhere, Bruno Guimaraes looked a much more agitated figure on the pitch on Saturday, the 27-year-old seemed to be feeling the pressure of the moment and lost his head with referee Jarred Gillett on multiple occasions.
With the Magpies left to pick up the pieces from the loss, Guimaraes has taken to social media to reflect on the defeat and has made one thing very clear.

Bruno Guimaraes’ promise to Newcastle United fans
Guimaraes was pleased after Newcastle beat Crystal Palace last week, but the Brazilian was far from pleased with the way his team played away from home on Saturday.
As captain, Guimaraes has stepped up this season, taking responsibility for defeats while also praising individuals after wins.
Speaking on his Instagram story on Sunday, Guimaraes said: “Hard to accept what happened yesterday. We have to stick together through every moment, game by game. We will fight to take Newcastle as high as possible. We count on your support as always.”
Newcastle have a chance to immediately bounce back from the loss as they take on Premier League strugglers Ipswich Town back at St James’ Park on Saturday.
Callum Wilson reunites with old friend in Newcastle United loss
This season, Callum Wilson has been reduced to a squad player as a result of persistent injury problems and Alexander Isak’s brilliant form.
The belief is that Wilson will leave Newcastle this summer, with the 33-year-old’s contract expiring at the end of the season.
Wilson came on for Newcastle, replacing Isak after 76 minutes, but failed to make any impact on the game. The England international remains goalless this season, and now Newcastle fans are calling for William Osula to replace Wilson in the pecking order.
Despite the loss, Wilson shared a picture with fellow England star Marcus Rashford on his Instagram story after the pair caught up during the game.
Rashford was linked to Newcastle during the January transfer window, but the 27-year-old opted for a move to Villa in order to play Champions League football.
