Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United agree on one clause in contract talks, it’s a major step

Newcastle United have been handed a major boost over the future of Bruno Guimaraes.

Guimaraes is arguably the greatest signing of the PIF era at Newcastle United, establishing himself as a modern-day legend at the club.

Newcastle paid £41.5million to sign Guimaraes from Lyon and that deal looks like a bargain.

He’s been available for almost every game since he arrived and captained the side to their Carabao Cup victory, which ended the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.

Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but Geordie Boot Boys understand Newcastle want to secure his long-term future.

Newcastle United plan new contract for Bruno Guimaraes

Speaking exclusively to the website, TBR Football’s chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed that Newcastle want to get rid of the player’s £100m release clause.

Eddie Howe has confirmed Guimaraes has a release clause though, obviously, that has not yet been activated.

The Brazilian and his camp are willing to do that, if he’s handed a new deal with an increased salary.

Guimaraes is Newcastle’s highest-paid player and his current deal runs until the summer of 2028.

Talks with Alexander Isak over a new contract, however, remain Newcastle’s priority.

“Newcastle are keen to do a new deal for Bruno, his current one had that release inserted and they are keen for that to be taken out,” said Bailey.

“Bruno and his team are seemingly willing, but a new deal is needed and another pay rise.

“As it stands a new deal is possible, although I believe a new deal for Alexander Isak is currently the main priority for the club.”

What Bruno Guimaraes wants Newcastle United to do urgently

Guimaraes has urged Newcastle to sign players this summer, now they are through a tricky period with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

While clearly happy on Tyneside, it’s notable he wants reinforcements this summer. The Newcastle United squad performed miracles last season after no major signings were made but they cannot do the same forever.

As well as giving players the money they want, Newcastle need to provide a platform on which they can flourish.

Removing the release clause is one thing and a major step to ensuring he remains at the club for years to come.

Giving Guimaraes the best chance of adding to the Carabao Cup trophy by reinforcing the squad is another matter entirely, though just as important.
