Brighton manager Graham Potter is now in the frame for the Newcastle job, as per the Sun.
They report that Antonio Conte was Newcastle’s top choice but he has since ruled himself out.
And that has brought Potter in the frame after his impressive work on the south coast.
Newcastle apparently want an English identity to take them into a new era under the new owners.

Pep is a fan
Pep Guardiola is clearly a fan of Potter. In January, he said, as per Sussex Live: “Graham Potter showed to all other managers, to all of football that not necessarily to be a top side, but to show courage, to be brave and play good football, he is maybe the best English manager right now.
“I admire him a lot and hopefully he can get the results to help them stay in the Premier League, because it helps a lot to world football, the way that he plays.”
That followed on from his praise in July 2020, as per the Argus: “Graham is one of the best English managers I have met. He is and will be a successful manager because I have noticed how he is as a human being and as a manager.
“I am a big fan of the managers who try to play their own way and not just wait for circumstances or one moment to win the game.”

Brighton defender Shane Duffy also called his boss a ‘top manager’ earlier in the week, in an interview with club media.
There’s no doubt that moving to Newcastle would bring Potter a level of scrutiny he hasn’t faced before.
But he is a modern, forward-thinking coach capable of playing entertaining football and improving players.
That’s what Newcastle need and it would be interesting to see the identity he would bring to the club if indeed the interest becomes concrete.
