Brentford’s Rico Henry admits he looks up to Newcastle star Kieran Trippier

Brentford’s Rico Henry has admitted that Kieran Trippier was ‘outstanding’ when his side faced Newcastle earlier this month.

The Magpies put Brentford to the sword at St James’ Park. Eddie Howe’s side won 5-1, on an excellent afternoon for the Toon Army.

Newcastle were ruthless, forcing the Bees to make mistake after mistake.

There were some top performances in black and white that day, most notably from Bruno Guimaraes. He scored twice and was the talk of the Toon after the game.

But Henry has reserved special praise for Newcastle’s right-back.

Henry has spoken to the Daily Mail, and expressed his admiration for Trippier.

“We played Newcastle recently and Trippier was outstanding,” he said.

“He is another one I look up to. I could take parts of his game and adapt it into mine. The way he is composed on the ball and he switched it quite a few times, gets crosses in.

“It was a good experience to play against him.”

Henry spoke about Trippier whilst discussing his ambitions of playing for England and representing his country. However, that will be very difficult given the wealth of talent we have in the full-back department.

Gareth Southgate has Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw at left-back, while he has also played Trippier over there. That is a testament to the Toon defender’s versatility and professionalism.

Trippier is one of those players who never lets you down, whether it’s for club or country. He has always performed well in an England shirt, and seems very likely to start for Gareth Southgate at the World Cup.

And the England manager will be enthused by Trippier’s form at St James’ Park. The 32-year-old is enjoying a fantastic season, and was particularly impressive in the aforementioned win over Brentford.

He got an assist on that day, with a cleverly worked corner leading to a header from Bruno.

As Henry says, Trippier is incredibly composed. He makes most things look easy – that was the first thing that stood out after his £12million move from Atletico Madrid.

Trippier is an outstanding player, and Henry will learn a lot if he continues to look up to him. However, playing alongside each other in Qatar seems unlikely at this stage.
