BBC pundit is convinced PIF will want to do something Eddie Howe has never done before at Newcastle in January

Glenn Murray has been discussing what he thinks Newcastle United will do in the transfer market and how it will impact Eddie Howe’s job.

Newcastle, like every other Premier League club, are keen to buy some greatly needed reinforcements this January, but FFP restrictions are limiting the kind of business that they can do.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club, Murray has suggested that Newcastle’s owners will soon want to bring in some big name players to really push things forwards, but he is unsure if Howe will be able to cope with the addition of star signings.

Howe has proven to be a top man manager at Newcastle

Though it may not be going brilliantly tactically for the former Bournemouth manager, what he still has is a dressing room full of players who are all on the same page and fighting together.

Whether it’s been down to the number of injuries or the amount of fatigue in the side, what Newcastle’s poor performances haven’t shown is a disjointedness within the squad.

Arguably Howe’s biggest strength since becoming manager at Newcastle has been his ability to cultivate a string sense of togetherness within the club from top to bottom, including the supporters.

A defeat to Sunderland this weekend could of course change that very quickly, but up until this point he’s shown no reason to doubt his ability to manage a squad with big name players in it.

On the show, Murray said: “Does Eddie go out and buy some big names? That for me would be something he hasn’t faced in his managerial career, having to deal with some big egos. I’m sure the Saudis want to do it and bring some big hitters in.”

Newcastle may struggle to attract star players

Should their run of disappointing results continue then Newcastle and Howe may not have to worry about how to fit star players into their squad as they simply won’t have a reason to join.

We could even see some of the established stars like Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak wanting to leave if there is no European football on offer in the North East as the window of opportunity for a footballer is very limited.

It’s not a major cause for concern right now with so much football left to play this season, but it is something that will certainly be on the minds of those at the very top of the club who are already preparing for a busy summer.
