Arsenal have reportedly made a bid for Houssem Aouar, which can’t be good news for Joe Willock if he wants to remain at the Emirates. However, it could be good news for Newcastle.
According to Le 10 Sport, the Gunners have launched an offer for the Lyon ace as they look bring the midfielder to North London.
Aouar was heavily linked with Arsenal last summer, but they signed Thomas Partey instead.
But they seem to be interested once again, which could help Newcastle in their pursuit of Willock.
Could reported Arsenal bid force Joe Willock to leave?
Willock was a revelation at Newcastle last season, and no doubt proved a lot of people wrong.
When he arrived at St James’ Park, there was limited fanfare.
But he immediately proved his worth, scoring on his debut against Southampton.
By the end of the season, he was Newcastle’s second top scorer with eight.
He added a new dimension to our attack, and reduced the pressure on Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin.
When fans returned to St James’ Park, they made it clear that they want Willock to stay.
However, it could be argued that he was actually too good for Newcastle. Surely with how he’d performed in the North East, it was inevitable that he’d get a chance at Arsenal.
But, according to the Athletic, the Gunners will listen to ‘suitable’ offers for the youngster.
Considering Arsenal are reportedly pursuing another attacking midfielder, it seems as though they have no use for Willock.
Aouar is a top player, who can create goals and score them himself. As for Willock, he’s struggled to fit in at the Emirates – something he had no issue with at Newcastle.
If Arsenal do complete a deal for Aouar, it can only be good news for Newcastle and their hopes of bringing Willock back.
The only issue remaining is whether or not the club can afford to do a deal.
