Newcastle United and Arsenal were recently involved in quite the battle.
They, of course, were left fuming after Anthony Gordon’s controversial goal was allowed to stand, while there were also a number of flashpoints throughout the game involving the likes of Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes.
Now, it seems Newcastle and the Gunners could go head-to-head in the transfer market too.
Indeed, Ruben Neves has been linked with a move to St James’ Park in January, while Arsenal are also thought to be keen.
Now, some more insight has emerged.
Ruben Neves: PIF stance unclear amid Arsenal transfer interest
According to 90 Min, Newcastle could continue their pursuit of the player even despite the imminent ban on players being loaned between clubs under the same ownership.
While, in theory, the Gunners could loan the player away from Al Hilal, that does not mean things will be easy.
PIF also own the Saudi Arabian club and the report states it remains unclear as to whether they would sanction a move to send Neves to Arsenal.

Ruben Neves: What midfielder has previously said about Newcastle
The idea of Neves moving to Newcastle is an interesting one.
A former Premier League captain still only 26, it’s a move that would make sense for Newcastle after Sandro Tonali’s ban from football.
Still, it would represent quite the turnaround for the player.
Back in August 2022, the Portugal international branded Newcastle’s style of play (via Football Daily) as “just long balls and second balls”.
So, if the club were to bring him back from Saudi – where he reportedly wants to leave – it would be a pretty remarkable turn of events.
Arsenal would of course be a tempting move for any player right now so their interest can hardly be written off, though Newcastle are not without their own attractions themselves.
