Arne Slot is not only worried about Alexander Isak ahead of Liverpool vs Newcastle United.

Liverpool are the latest club to be tasked with stopping Alexander Isak, who made Premier League history on Sunday.

He became the highest scoring Swedish player in Premier League history, with Isak netting a brace to take his tally to 50 goals. Isak was excellent as Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest, taking his 20th and 21st goals of the campaign.

The 25-year-old is only four goals shy of equalling last season’s tally, as Isak continues to go from strength to strength.

Arne Slot answers Alexander Isak question

Arne Slot will currently be formulating a plan to keep Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever at bay, and the Liverpool boss has hinted to the media that he knows how to ‘control’ Isak.

However, Isak is not the only Newcastle United attacker that Slot is worried about after being asked about stopping the Swede.

“Understatement to say in fine form, he [Isak] is in excellent form,” he said.

“The team performance will help control him. The more ball possession we have the easier it is to control him, although he is definitely a threat on the counterattack as well.

“But we have two very good centre-backs, which is what you need when you face the quality of Alexander Isak.

“But it is not only about him. I like the style of play Eddie Howe has introduced, a team who has a very good gameplan, very intense with or without the ball.

“He is not the only offensive threat they have, Gordon is a big threat.”

Anthony Gordon’s first Anfield appearance since nearly joining Liverpool

Slot is right to be wary of Anthony Gordon too. The 24-year-old is one of the Premier League’s best wingers, and he is a player who has had a lot of joy against Liverpool since becoming a Newcastle United player.

In his last three appearances against Liverpool, Gordon has scored two goals and provided one assist.

He has caused countless problems for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who struggles to handle his fellow Scouser’s pace and dribbling ability.

Interestingly, this will be Gordon’s first appearance at Anfield since nearly becoming a Liverpool player.

Gordon was offered to Liverpool in the summer, as Newcastle desperately tried to avoid breaching PSR rules.

It was claimed that Gordon’s head was turned by Liverpool, as he narrowly missed out on the chance to join his boyhood club. Gordon recently revealed his family are Liverpool fans, so it is understandable why a move to Anfield would have appealed.

But the transfer collapsed, and Gordon has since signed a new long-term contract at St James’ Park. He is committed to Newcastle United, and will hope to prove Arne Slot right on Wednesday night.
