Newcastle United’s star man Anthony Gordon has revealed how difficult it was against Man United after the same 11 players had to play the last three games as the club continue to suffer from injuries.
Newcastle have been struggling with a major injury crisis in the last couple of months, though this has not stopped them from putting in some huge performances in all competitions.
Gordon spoke after the game to reflect on how difficult it has been for the same 11 players the play over 90 minutes three times in the last week.
Newcastle have little to no depth
For the players that have started the last three games, there will be no time for them to catch their breath as they prepare for another big game against Everton on Thursday night.
With the injury problems only getting worse after Nick Pope was forced off against Man United, Eddie Howe will again be relying on his 10 outfield players who beat Chelsea, drew against PSG and defeated Man United.
Gordon was clearly concerned about how tired the players may be getting and emphasised how important it was for Newcastle to get the first goal against Man United so they weren’t chasing the game.
Speaking to NUFCTV, Gordon said: “It’s been really difficult, the same 11 players have played so many minutes so we’re really tired. The longer the game went on it favoured them a little bit, they were bringing on fresh players. So, getting that first goal was huge and we’re really pleased.”

Newcastle hope for positive injury news ahead of Winter schedule
The Christmas period is a notoriously busy part of the footballing schedule and it could completely make or break your season if you hit a bad or good run of form.
Eddie Howe will be very keen to get some of his players back from injury like Sven Botman and Harvey Barnes who are not believed to be too far away.
The boss will also want to make sure that no other Newcastle players pick up a knock in that time, especially with Gordon coming off late against Man United with some discomfort.
Newcastle now head to Everton during the week, but will also have one eye on a huge game away to Tottenham on Sunday and a massive Champions League fixture against AC Milan next Wednesday which will have huge implications on the rest of the season.
