Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon has put Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka in their place during an England training drill.

The Three Lions are currently preparing to face Greece in the Nations League, and Anthony Gordon will be hoping to start for the third consecutive time under Lee Carsley. It is another important game for the interim boss, with Carsley now the favourite to get the England job full time.

England have released a training video ahead of Thursday night’s game at Wembley, and Carsley’s players appeared to be in high spirits.

Gordon teamed up with Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who is in the senior England squad for the second time ever. Interestingly, Gomes has been linked with a move to Newcastle, with the 24-year-old set to become a free agent next summer.

The aim of the game was to score as many goals as possible. There was a forfeit on the line too, with the losing pair having to serve the winners their lunch.

It initially looked like Rice and Saka were dominating, but then the tide turned – with a little help from Nick Pope.

Dean Henderson faced the first set of shots, then it was Pope’s turn in between the sticks. He made a couple of stunning save to deny Saka and Rice, while two more of the Arsenal team’s efforts missed the target.

That gave Gordon the chance to confirm the win, as he fired a shot beyond his helpless Toon teammate to secure victory for the Northerners. Gordon and Gomes celebrated, while the Arsenal players prepared to face a forfeit.

Gordon hoping to start for England

Gordon looked sharp in training, producing some brilliant finishes. That is encouraging ahead of the game against Greece, where the 23-year-old will be hoping to start.

According to the Telegraph, Lee Carsley is considering starting Gordon out wide, with Jude Bellingham operating as a false nine.

That is despite having Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke available as striker options in the absence of Harry Kane.

Newcastle face Arsenal very soon

During training, Gordon got the win over Rice and Saka, and it will not be long until they are taking each other on in a competitive match.

Newcastle United welcome Arsenal to St James’ Park on November 2nd.

Given what happened last season on Tyneside, that will be a very feisty game. It was a contest filled with incident and controversy, with Kai Havertz and Bruno Guimaraes avoiding what looked like obvious red cards.

The main controversy surrounded Newcastle’s winner, which was scored by Gordon. The goal was given after a lengthy VAR check, with Arsenal furiously appealing that the ball was out in the build-up, that there was a foul by Joelinton and a possible offside.

All of those appeals were ignored, as Newcastle secured a 1-0 victory.

Those incidents have played on the mind of the Arsenal faithful ever since, and it should result in a ferocious atmosphere on November 2nd.
