Newcastle United have made their move to sign Anthony Elanga, who has only fueled speculation with a social media message to one of their players.
Elanga is once again a transfer target for Newcastle United, who also tried to sign the Sweden international during the summer of 2024.
Newcastle have opened talks to sign Elanga, but Nottingham Forest remain in a strong bargaining position.
Forest want more than £50million for the 23-year-old. Paying that would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive ever players.
Alexander Isak has previously spoken to Elanga about a move to Newcastle, though his Swedish compatriot isn’t the only Toon player with whom the Forest star shares a friendship.
Indeed, on Friday night, Elanga sent a public message to a certain William Osula.

Anthony Elanga sends two-word message to Newcastle United’s William Osula
Osula is set to stay at Newcastle next season after the club decided to reject loan offers from teams in the Championship.
The striker has been spending some of his time off following the end of the season on holiday in New York City, and posted a collage of images from his time there on Instagram.
Hours after the transfer news broke, Elanga responded to Osula’s post by commenting: “My boy”.
How Anthony Elanga felt about joining Newcastle United
Elanga was open to joining Newcastle in 2024, but the club just couldn’t get a deal over the line, having made their move to sign him late on in last season’s summer transfer window.
It would not be hard to imagine Elanga still being keen, although that is only speculative. While Forest have just enjoyed a fine season, Newcastle are a Champions League club and they have two players in the squad Elanga appears to be friends with.
Having scored six goals while registering 11 assists in 38 Premier League games last season, the 23-year-old would be a welcome addition.
Jacob Murphy was in fine form for Newcastle last season but cannot be expected to play every single game next time out, particularly with the added burden of the Champions League campaign to come.
