Newcastle United dream of bringing Elliot Anderson back to St James’ Park in the future, Geordie Boot Boys understand.

The 22-year-old has been on an upwards trajectory ever since waving goodbye to Tyneside. PSR forced Newcastle United to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest in 2024, and the local lad has not looked back since arriving at the City Ground for £35million.

He has been immense for Nottingham Forest, which resulted in Anderson making his England debut in the recent round of World Cup qualifiers.

Amid his incredible rise, Joe Cole recently tipped Anderson to leave Forest for a bigger club in the future, and Newcastle United would love it if that meant he returned to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United want to re-sign Elliot Anderson in the future

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told Geordie Boot Boys that Newcastle United are very keen to bring Elliot Anderson back to the club at some point in the future.

However, Bailey stresses that Nottingham Forest currently have no interest in sanctioning his departure.

“Talk about dream signings, I am told Newcastle would love to re-sign Elliot Anderson and I believe ‘one day’ the player would like that too,” he said.

“Anderson has developed into one of the Premier League’s top young players, but Newcastle knew his talent. They were aware of how good he was and his potential.

“Forest are already facing up to interest in him, which is not surprising given his form but they have no plans to let him go.

“I am sure Newcastle fans are keeping a close track of Anderson’s progress and well, you never know – he may return one day.”

Selling Elliot Anderson was Eddie Howe’s most difficult decision

Ever since he left St James’ Park, Eddie Howe has bemoaned losing Anderson.

It was the price that Newcastle had to pay to comply with PSR in 2024, as they did whatever it took to stay within the rules and avoid a points deduction.

Yankuba Minteh also left Newcastle, but it was Anderson’s exit that hit Howe the hardest.

Howe spoke about Anderson shortly after his departure, admitting: “We’d have loved to have kept them [Anderson and Minteh]. I think they’re two outstanding players and really disappointed to lose them both, but we were backed into a corner, we were in a very difficult position.

“Especially Elliot because he’d been with us so long and right through the system. The last thing you want to do is develop players and have to sell them but the rules dictated that.”

It was reported in September 2024 that selling Anderson was Howe’s most difficult decision during his managerial career, but it was a case of needs must. Newcastle United simply had to let their homegrown star go to comply with PSR.

He has blossomed since joining Forest, more so than he perhaps would have if he had stayed with the Magpies. Now a more rounded and experienced player, Newcastle United would love to bring Anderson back in the future.
