One of the most striking things about Newcastle United are the supporters.
While every club will talk up their own fanbase, Newcastle’s have a reputation.
A hugely passionate and emotional set of supporters, they are being rewarded these days after so many bleak years under Mike Ashley’s ownership.
Though it is difficult to suggest any particular fanbase necessarily ‘deserves’ anything given the nature of sport, few would doubt Toon fans have been through the mill.
A unique, one-club city with the famous football stadium located right in the middle of it, the struggles make the current success all the sweeter.
Indeed, Newcastle are known across the game for their passionate support and David Beckham has recently given his view.

Speaking on a series called Career in Shirts by Classic Football Shirts on YouTube, Beckham was asked about Newcastle, having been shown their kit from the 1999 FA Cup final in which he played.
“Newcastle always had good shirts to be honest,” he said.
“They’ve always had good shirts and I’ve always loved Newcastle as a club. I love the fans, I love the way they are.
“We played up in Newcastle for England once and they were amazing.”

Even during the bleak years, the away support in particular was something to be proud of as a Newcastle fan.
Such a dedicated traveling support speaks volumes about how much the club means to people, something the current crop of players appear to be feeding off.
Taking that energy to Borussia Dortmund will be crucial. Newcastle surely have to win to keep their hopes of Champions League progression in their own hands, after all.
These are fantastic times in which to be a Newcastle fan. It’s certainly nice to see that dedication recognised.
