Almiron and Lascelles lead the way in Premier League stats after first Newcastle win

Newcastle finally got their first Premier League win of the season with a deserved 1-0 victory over Burnley.

Callum Wilson got the goal and Joelinton received plenty of credit from the fans on Twitter after the game.

But on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, a light was shone on two players who might have gone under the radar.

Burnley like slinging crosses into the box and were chasing the game so perhaps it is no surprise that Jamaal Lascelles had the opportunity to win as many headers as he did.

That said, the returning captain proved his worth while helping his side get a first clean sheet of the season.

Miguel Almiron came in for Ryan Fraser, and showcased his intensity, speed and work rate by topping the two stats as seen above.

There is a renewed energy about Newcastle under Howe and that was epitomised by Almiron at the weekend as he gave everything to get the win.

Topping these statistical categories means nothing if the wins don’t come Newcastle’s way.

But it is good to see their players leading the way in the Premier League stakes, on a weekend where the result followed.

The fixture list gets a little harder for Howe and his players in the weeks leading up to Christmas, but if they keep the same effort and quality up, there will be opportunities to get results.
