Ally McCoist has thrown his two pence-worth regarding the Neymar situation with Newcastle United consistently linked with the Brazilian megastar.
Sports media has been awash with stories linking Neymar with a move to Newcastle recently with the 31-year-old looking almost certain to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.
As much as PSG want to move him on, they are going to find it difficult to find a club who will be willing to take on Neymar’s insane wages. Add to that his reputation in the game as a prima donna and his poor injury record, it’s going to be a tall order for any club.
McCoist made no bones about it – Neymar would not be good for the PL
Now, chatting on TalkSPORT, Laura Woods and Ally McCoist have spoken about the likelihood of the Brazilian moving to the Premier League and McCoist can’t see a good fit for him in England.
Woods asked McCoist: “Neymar is wanting out of PSG and they’re happy to let him go. They essentially want his £44m a season wage bill off their books. If Neymar does leave PSG would you see him moving to the Premier League? Would it make sense for any Premier League club to sign him?”

And she barely had time to finish her question when the former Rangers man chirped up with a definitive ‘no’: : “No! He’s not a good signing for Man United, he’s not a good signing for Chlesea, he’s not a good signing for Newcastle. You can forget about him going to Arsenal or Man City. I’m not sure it’s a circus but there will be baggage. Actually it might be a circus to be brutally honest and you don’t need all the baggage that comes with it.”
Of course, McCoist is absolutely spot on. It’s not just about the ridiculous wages, the injuries and whatnot, it’s about the circus, the baggage that comes with a move for someone like Neymar.
No player is bigger than Newcastle but Neymar would give that impression
I mentioned it recently, the type of attention a player like that gets can make them look and feel bigger than the club, and that is not what the new Newcastle United philosophy is all about. It’s team-first, no egos. There will be players who Newcastle go for who maybe tread that line, but it’ll be expected that Newcastle will be able to reel them in, but Neymar is way beyond.
If Neymar does end up leaving PSG this summer I can really only see him going back to Spain or heading to Saudi Arabia like Cristiano Ronaldo.
As talented as he is, and as much money the club could make off his name, we are better off well away from this one.
