Newcastle United talisman Allan Saint-Maximin has hailed a new arrival in the Premier League – sadly it’s for Norwich, not the Magpies.

With our first pre-season friendly just days away, Newcastle are yet to make a single first-team signing this summer.

It’ll be interesting to see who features on Sunday, with two separate teams set to face Harrogate and York at the same time.

Multiple players are yet to report back from international duty, while the squad is severely weakened by Joe Willock’s return to Arsenal.

In terms of transfers, we don’t seem to be anywhere near a new arrival.

Steve Bruce reportedly wanted at least one new player before the first pre-season game, but it seems very unlikely that there’ll be a fresh face in the team by Sunday.

At least we’ve still got Saint-Maximin though. The Frenchman is the best player at the club, and has been linked with a summer move to Everton recently.

Saint-Maximin called on the club to match his ambitions earlier in the year, imploring the Magpies to sign more top players like Willock.

As it stands, however, Newcastle are yet to act.

Allan Saint-Maximin is loving new Premier League arrival

In the meantime, Saint-Maximin is instead praising the transfer business of one of our Premier League rivals.

Norwich have announced the signing of French midfielder Pierre Lees-Melou. The 28-year-old arrives from Nice, and is a former teammate of Saint-Maximin.

On Instagram, the Newcastle number 10 wrote ‘what a player’ in response to Norwich’s latest arrival.

It’s another good bit of business by the Canaries, who have already added Billy Gilmour as well. The Chelsea midfielder was reportedly wanted by Newcastle, but the Magpies missed out.

Norwich have also been linked with Kristoffer Ajer, another Newcastle United target.

The Magpies will face Norwich soon, with the two sides set to meet in a friendly on August 7th.

Fans will get to see first hand if Lees-Melou is really as good as Saint-Maximin says he is.
