Newcastle United have suffered another transfer blow after Billy Gilmour completed a loan move to Norwich City.
The Scottish midfielder will spend the season at Carrow Road, after the Canaries agreed a deal with Chelsea.
This will be disappointing for Newcastle, who were linked with a move for the 20-year-old.
The Northern Echo claimed in May that Newcastle were interested in signing Gilmour if Chelsea were to make him available for loan.
The European champions did exactly that, but Gilmour will be playing in yellow and green rather than black and white.
This might not be the only time this summer that Norwich triumph over Newcastle in the transfer window, with both clubs reportedly interested in Kristoffer Ajer.
Gilmour is the latest new signing for Norwich, who have also added Ben Gibson, Angus Gunn, Dimitrios Giannoulis and Milot Rashica to their squad.
Newcastle will likely get to see first hand what they missed out on next month, with the Magpies heading to Carrow Road for a friendly.
But at the moment, it feels like a missed opportunity.
Gilmour looks like he is going to be a top midfielder. He was sensational against England last month at the Euros.
He could have rivalled Jonjo Shelvey in the Newcastle midfield, but instead he’ll be plying his trade in East Anglia.
Newcastle fans have reacted to the news on Twitter, and are disappointed to see Gilmour join Norwich.
