Allan Saint-Maximin delivers message to Newcastle target Marcus Thuram

Marcus Thuram helped France reach the World Cup final on Wednesday night, and has received a message of congratulations from Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin.

The 25-year-old, who was not named in Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad, shared a picture of Thuram on his official Twitter account, highlighting the forward’s incredible achievement.

In the image ASM has posted, Thuram’s father Lilian can be seen holding the World Cup trophy after winning it in 1998. Fast forward 24 years and Marcus now has the chance to win it himself.

It would be a remarkable feat, with France now just one game away from winning back-to-back World Cups. They need to beat Argentina to do it, who they face in the final on Sunday.

Alongside his picture of Lilian and Marcus Thuram, Saint-Maximin added a four-word message. He wrote: “So proud of you.”

Saint-Maximin and Thuram played together at youth level. They were both with Boulogne-Billancourt as teenagers, while they also represented the France youth sides together.

Now Saint-Maximin could be set to watch Thuram become a world champion, ahead of possibly becoming teammates once again in January.

Thuram’s future is very much up in the air right now. His contract with Borussia Monchengladbach is set to expire next summer, leading to speculation that he will be sold in January.

The forward has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park, with the Sun claiming that Eddie Howe’s side could make a move for him next month. Other outlets have also backed up Newcastle’s interest, such as the Athletic and 90min.

The 25-year-old has been enjoying a sensational season in Germany. He’s got 17 goal contributions in all competitions already, and could soon be available for a bargain fee.

His contract status and ability to play anywhere across the front certainly makes him appealing to Newcastle, and he would be a great addition to Howe’s squad.

A move for Thuram would definitely keep Saint-Maximin happy, who is delighted to see his old teammate on the brink of World Cup glory.
