Alexander Isak reveals why scoring against Liverpool was so ‘satisfying’ for Newcastle United

Alexander Isak has scored some remarkable goals for Newcastle United.

Isak is arguably one of the very best forwards in world football and has already been crucial to making history at Newcastle United.

Indeed, the striker scored what proved to be the winning goal in the Carabao Cup final, ending Newcastle’s 70-year wait for a major domestic honour.

Based on his stunning form over the last two seasons, Isak has been hailed as “world class” and it’s difficult to disagree with that.

The Sweden star has scored 61 goals while registering 10 assists in 106 appearances for the club since Newcastle paid £63million to sign Isak from Real Sociedad in 2022.

Surely none of his strikes were quite as important as the one at Wembley but Isak gave a fairly surprising answer when asked about his favourite goal for the club.

Alexander Isak makes “satisfying” Liverpool claim

Speaking to YouTube show Men In Blazers, Isak was put on the spot by the host.

The 25-year-old was asked to name his favourite goal for Newcastle, with the host bringing up his excellent strike against West Ham in April 2023.

Somewhat surprisingly, Isak did not name his goal at Wembley as his favourite one.

Still, another goal against Liverpool was mentioned. Isak revealed his most cherished of the sizeable bunch was the brilliant goal he scored from range during the 3-3 draw with the Reds at St James’ Park in December.

“There are many goals that are special to me,” he said.

“If we just shorten it down to this season, it makes it easier.

“I’d probably say the best one is the one against Liverpool at home, because it was a finish from outside the box.

“It was a satisfying one.”

He added: “The distance and the power, it was a nice one.”

Alexander Isak’s stunning record against Liverpool

Liverpool are interested in signing Isak but will surely have to look elsewhere, along with the other teams keen on his services.

It now seems Isak is set to stay at Newcastle this summer, with Premier League spending potentially down again due to the impact of the PSR rules.

It’s easy to see why Liverpool would want the Swede, of course.

An absolutely world class forward, Isak has constantly proven a thorn in their side.

Until Wembley, that was largely on an individual basis but his fourth goal in six games against the Merseyside giants stopped them from winning the Carabao Cup
