Alexander Isak was forced off against Southampton due to injury, but the Newcastle United striker has now admitted that he is ‘feeling fine’.

The 23-year-old started Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup semi final on the bench, but was brought on in the 62nd minute alongside Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy.

Eddie Howe completely changed his front three midway through the second half, but was then forced to change it again late in the game.

In the aftermath of Bruno Guimaraes’ red card, Southampton had a free-kick in a dangerous position. It looked like the perfect opportunity for James Ward-Prowse, who was primed to drag the Saints back into the cup tie.

However, his free kick was bravely blocked by Isak, who headed JWP’s effort clear. The Sweden international then hit the deck and received treatment from the physios.

He did try and play on, but was eventually forced off in the 95th minute amid concern he had concussion.

Alexander Isak says he ‘feels fine’ after head injury

After the game, Isak took to his official Instagram account. He celebrated the team booking their place at Wembley and provided an update on his fitness.

He wrote: “Wembley it is! Great night at St James’s Park as always. Came off with a minor head injury but feeling fine after all.”

It is excellent to hear that Isak is ‘feeling fine’. It is always scary when a player has to come off with an injury like that.

He will now hope to be available for Saturday night’s Premier League clash with West Ham. The Magpies take on David Moyes’ side at St James’ Park in the evening kickoff.

Isak’s fitness update suggests that he will be available, but it will likely depend on the medical staff. The way football clubs handle concussion is a big issue in the game right now, and Newcastle must take the correct steps.

The FA’s website states that if a player does have a concussion, they should not return to playing a competitive game until six days have passed.

That would mean Isak misses Saturday’s game, so his selection will depend on whether or not the club actually feel that he did suffer a concussion.
