Alexander Isak is Newcastle United’s hero right now, but that does not tell the full story of his Toon career so far.
It has been a frustrating start to life at Newcastle for Isak, who has been limited to just 15 appearances for his new club, eight of which have came as a starter.
Goals have not been hard to come by though, with the 23-year-old finding the net six times for the Magpies since his £63million arrival.
Three of his goals have came in his last two games, as the super Swede finally put his injury woes behind him for good. Isak missed a lot of football with a thigh problem, which he suffered after just three games for his new club.
Now the striker, who has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Month, has admitted that his first six months on Tyneside were ‘tough’.

Alexander Isak admits beginning of Newcastle career was ‘tough’
Isak has spoke to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen during the international break, and addressed his injury from earlier in the season.
“I got a thigh injury. The first six months at the club were tough and it took some time to come back from the injury,” he said.
“But it was still okay because I still got to play three games and show a bit. Then the team did so well that it took the pressure off myself and I could focus on my rehab instead of thinking the team needed me.
“It helped a bit, but it’s clear that it wasn’t easy.”
Now we are seeing the real Isak in black and white
It was such a shame for Isak to suffer an injury so early into his Newcastle career. Luckily, it did not coincide with a dip in form for the Magpies.
As Isak said, that helped lift the pressure, with Callum Wilson leading the line brilliantly. He played so well that he was included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup.
But now Wilson is struggling, and it coincides with Isak enjoying a rich vein of form. The timing has been perfect.
We are starting to see the real Alexander Isak, and it is clear that he is going to be an absolute superstar. Joe Willock has likened him to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, which is incredibly high praise. The Frenchman is one of the Premier League’s greatest ever players.
Isak boasts similar qualities to Henry, and is starting to show his goalscoring prowess. It would be excellent if he can reach double figures between now and the end of the season. That should set him up brilliant for the 2023/24 campaign, when hopefully he can stay injury free.
