Alexander Isak attracted the attention of the footballing world when he ditched Newcastle United for Liverpool.
Isak officially joined Liverpool in September, but it was a story that dragged on for almost the entirety of the summer transfer window.
Isak burned his bridges at Newcastle United and, from his point of view, the ends justified the means.
In the end, he got what he wanted. Isak wanted to leave Newcastle for months before he actually left and eventually did enough to secure a money-spinning move to Anfield.
Things haven’t gone well for him since. While these are early days, he drew another blank as Liverpool lost their fourth consecutive game on Sunday as Manchester United ran out 2-1 winners at Anfield.
The 25-year-old has scored one goal in seven games and that came in the Carabao Cup against Southampton. Isak was widely criticised for his behaviour at Newcastle and fans on social media were joking that he just doesn’t look like the same player anymore.

Such was the magnitude of Sunday’s game, football fans took to social media platform X to react to Isak’s performance.
Many were joking that Newcastle have won out after selling Isak for a British record fee, while replacing him with Nick Woltemade. The German striker has scored five goals for the Magpies.
Clearly, Isak’s proven track record would suggest an improvement is coming. Still, his actions this summer were always likely to evoke a strong reaction from supporters, no matter their team.
“This is not the same Isak Newcastle signed,” commented one fan.
Another added: “Newcastle need to send us the codes to unlock Liverpool Isak.”
“Isak hooked off again before 90 again, man has looked far from his Newcastle self since moving to Liverpool,” said another.
How much did Liverpool pay for Alexander Isak?
Liverpool broke the British transfer record to sign Isak and it’s thought the deal is worth £125million.
A statement from the Magpies read: “Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee.
“The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”
Reports suggest the payment structure of the Isak deal between Liverpool and Newcastle saw the Reds pay £30.5million this summer and will continue to do so every year until the total reaches up to the agreed amount.
