Alan Shearer was so impressed with what Bruno Guimaraes did for Newcastle United in their big win against Nottingham Forest yesterday.

It was a tougher game than Eddie Howe would have liked but Newcastle took home all three points thanks to some individual brilliance from their number 39.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer shared how impressed he was with the build up to Newcastle’s first goal, but labelled the finish from Bruno as ‘incredible’.

Bruno’s brilliance wins the game for Newcastle

Bruno was playing in a less familiar position further up the pitch yesterday evening and it worked to great effect as the Brazilian popped up with two goals, two more than he’d scored all season in the Premier League.

While his second effort may get all the plaudits as it was a lot further out and was the goal that won the game, the technique for his first goal was excellent and as a whole it was a much more enjoyable goal to watch from a Newcastle standpoint.

Shearer in particular wanted to highlight just how brilliant this finish was to take the ball on the volley and place it past the goalkeeper and into the far corner.

The legendary striker did point out how good the 26-year-old had been all game as he was awarded man of the match, but really wanted to focus on how difficult a finish it was to open the scoring like he did.

On Bruno, Shearer said: “This is his goal here, well worked set-piece, great ball in from Trippier, but that is such a good technique to hit it like that eyes on the ball watching it all the way. And to get the direction and power like he did, it was an incredible goal.”

When Newcastle’s form started to suffer towards the end of 2023, there were a few questions raised about Bruno’s form and how he perhaps wasn’t in his best run of form for the team.

But all those who questioned the Brazil international have swiftly been silenced these past few weeks as Bruno has really taken his game to another level with some excellent goals and assists.

Luckily for Newcastle, Bruno has managed to stay injury free all season during a campaign that has been plagued by knocks and suspensions, though he is currently walking a tightrope with nine yellow cards.

Howe will be hoping and praying that he can keep the £40m man in the team as his on-the-ball ability is absolutely key to the way Newcastle going forwards.
