Alan Shearer says ‘sensational’ Newcastle duo were crucial to Man United win

Alan Shearer has claimed that Kieran Trippier and Tino Livramento were key for Newcastle United in their huge victory over Man United on Saturday.

There were a number of star performers in the game with Anthony Gordon netting the winner and Joelinton dominating the midfield, but Shearer was most impressed with the full-backs.

In his analysis on Match of the Day, Shearer suggested that it was Trippier and Livramento who had won Newcastle the game with their brilliant work out wide.

Shearer says Trippier and Livramento were ‘sensational’

Both Trippier and Livramento were on top form once again for Eddie Howe’s side and are making a habit of being two of the most impressive Newcastle players every game.

Trippier played his usual game and showed off his attacking strengths with a brilliantly weighted ball across the box for Gordon to tap home and secure a huge three points for Newcastle.

For Livramento, however, he was again playing in a less familiar position at left-back but showed his qualities just like he did against Chelsea and PSG earlier in the week.

Time and time again the £32m signing was getting in behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka and causing huge problems for Man United, but he was also stifling any potential attacks at the other end as well.

On Match of the Day, Shearer said: “They absolutely battered Man United in wide areas. Trippier and Livramento were just sensational against Wan-Bissaka and Dalot, but in their defence they got no help whatsoever.”

Tino Livramento now ahead of Dan Burn

Dan Burn was very unfortunate to pick up an injury to his back against Arsenal, but he may be even more worried about his place in the team after these performances from Livramento.

Burn was one of the first names on the team sheet for Eddie Howe as a reliable and hard working defender, but the former Southampton man has shown how effective it can be to have an attacking full-back down both flanks.

Newcastle’s combination of Trippier and Livramento was too much for Man United to handle and it would be very, very harsh to see the latter dropped to make way for the returning Burn.

It’s a difficult situation that Howe will find himself in but one that he will welcome after the number of injuries the team has picked up in the last couple of months.
