Alan Shearer says £40m Newcastle man did something really ‘cheeky’ in the win vs Wolves

Alan Shearer was wowed by what one Newcastle United player did in their 3-0 victory against Wolves at the weekend.

Newcastle looked back to their best as they dominated Wolves on the scoreline and kept a clean sheet in the league for the first time since December, but there was also some individual brilliance in the game.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer shared how he was really impressed with the no-look pass from Bruno Guimaraes which almost resulted in another goal for Newcastle.

Newcastle didn’t necessarily dominate in terms of how much of the ball they had, but the result never felt like it was in danger after the Magpies took an early lead through Alexander Isak.

Despite it being just 2-0 for most of the game, Newcastle just had a superiority about them in the way that they were playing, almost like they were already 5-0 up and were trying out new things.

One moment in particular which caught the eye was when Bruno spun out of a tackle on the edge of the box before sending a perfect pass to Miguel Almiron in the penalty area without looking.

The Paraguayan was able to control it well but his effort was well saved by Wolves’ goalkeeper who did a good job in getting out early, but it was almost a very special moment for the Newcastle midfielder, and Shearer absolutely loved it.

On Bruno’s pass, Shearer said: “Cheeky wasn’t it. It was brilliant. It was great skill, great to see.”

Newcastle have a real star on their hands

It’s pretty well known by now, but Bruno is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and absolutely key to everything that Newcastle do now and in the future.

To not only have the confidence but also the ability to pull something off during a game with such high intensity just shows the kind of player he is, and it’s exactly what this Newcastle team need in the heart of their midfield.

There has been speculation around his future and whether or not Newcastle may look to sell him in order to reinvest the money in other areas, but they’d only spend years and years trying to find a player as good as him to replace the 26-year-old.
