Eddie Howe is enjoying a great season with Newcastle United, and Toon legend Alan Shearer has explained exactly why he is so special.
The 44-year-old has had a remarkable 12 months on Tyneside. It started with a survival mission, and it ended with the Magpies chasing Champions League football.
The turnaround at St James’ Park has been astonishing, and there are plenty of reasons behind the improvement. A big one has been the ownership. They have lifted the mood around the club, and also invested huge amounts of money.

Newcastle’s all-time leading goalscorer has been speaking to the Athletic, and explained why Howe is so good at his job.
“What Eddie is doing is rinsing every single ounce of ability out of every single player,” he said.
“That’s the sign of a great coach. He and his staff deserve immense credit. It’s so impressive. He is getting everything out of them.”

This is what makes Newcastle such a strong team. There are no passengers. Every player has an important role, and does it to the best of their ability.
There is competition for places which means no room for complacency. That wasn’t the case in the past.
