Newcastle United made it six straight wins in all competitions after dominating Crystal Palace at St James’ Park.
The Magpies moved up to a remarkable third in the Premier League table on Wednesday night, something few fans would have seen coming during their slump in October and November.
Newcastle United beat Crystal Palace 5-0, but the game could have been a lot different had Eberechi Eze converted from the spot with the scores at 1-0. Mark Clattenburg admitted he was ‘surprised’ at Crystal Palace’s penalty decision, claiming incidents like Nick Pope’s collision with Chris Richards do not usually result in a penalty.
Joelinton fumed at Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall during the win after he was taken off sooner than anticipated. The Brazilian was one booking away from receiving a two-match ban. With the score at 5-0, Tindall believed it was right to substitute Joelinton to ensure he survived any punishment.
The Magpies are back in action on Saturday night after winning their game in hand over the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City around them. A trip to fellow Champions League hopefuls Aston Villa is on the cards. While Newcastle can celebrate going five points clear of sixth, former Toon boss Alan Pardew has sent a clear warning to Tindall and his players.

Alan Pardew warns Newcastle United ahead of Aston Villa clash
After their last three wins, Newcastle’s players will be oozing with confidence. There is a lot of belief within the squad at the moment, with Champions League qualification a clear target being worked towards.
However, Villa have been exceptional in their own right this season and are currently enjoying a good run of form in the Premier League.
Unai Emery’s side have won their last four league games, including a 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest. Villa have lost just one game at home all season, so Tindall and his players could be in for a difficult evening in the Midlands on Saturday.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Newcastle’s win against Palace, Pardew was asked about the Magpies’ next game against Villa.
“It’s been a dream for (Tindall). To come in as a manager and win two with four and five (goals). He’s going to go into that Villa game, he hasn’t even got to make a change! He can just name the same team again – It’s brilliant for him.
“I think it’s a really interesting game. Emotionally for Villa, that would have been a hard task (against PSG), and to pick the boys up and get them back up for the weekend is going to be a difficult job, whereas Newcastle’s turnaround – they’re bubbling. They’ll be looking forward to it.
“Interesting, but as Jason said, only one home defeat for Villa, so a tough ask. You’d expect Villa to get something. Maybe a draw or a win.”

Newcastle United’s last five games vs Aston Villa
Tindall will be eager to continue their fine run of form, but the trip to Villa Park will be one of the more difficult obstacles he has to overcome in order to keep Newcastle inside the top four for the rest of the season.
Thankfully, Newcastle’s recent record against Villa is mostly positive, with the Magpies winning four of their last five games against them.
Their last defeat came at Villa Park in April 2023 when Ollie Watkins scored a brace in a 3-0 demolition job.

Most recently, Newcastle beat Aston Villa 3-0 at St James’ Park on Boxing Day last year. The game will be remembered by fans of both teams due to the 20-man brawl that took place in the tunnel at half-time.
Eddie Howe opened up about Newcastle’s involvement in the melee, admitting that he and the players were ‘standing up’ for themselves at the time.
