Newcastle United are yet to sign a player during the January transfer window but have reached an agreement with one of their existing stars.
Indeed, on Monday, it was confirmed Fabian Schar had been rewarded for his fine form under Eddie Howe by being handed a contract extension running until the summer of 2025.
Schar has been a key Newcastle player under Howe, establishing himself as the first-choice partner to Sven Botman.
That has had an impact on Jamaal Lascelles, who has largely dropped out of the starting lineup unless either Schar or Botman pick up injuries.
Reportedly liked by Besiktas, there has been some fresh new surrounding the 30-year-old.
Jamaal Lascelles: Newcastle latest
According to Newcastle World, the club are likely to reopen talks with Lascelles over the prospect of a new deal.
The defender will be out of contract this summer, making him able to speak to foreign clubs this month.
Though there have been links about a move to Turkey, this report adds that Howe sees a future for Lascelles at St James’ Park.

Jamaal Lascelles: Huge decision for Newcastle captain
Though clearly rated by Howe, Lascelles is an interesting position in his career.
At some point, Newcastle may well sign a new central defender, so it’s hardly out of the question that the former Nottingham Forest youngster would see his game time reduced even further.
While he may have a place in the squad on Tyneside, regular football may be hard to come by.
With that in mind, being tempted by the prospect of a move abroad would certainly be understandable. The Turkish league in particular has attracted Premier League players over the age of 30 before, so it would hardly be much of a surprise to see Lascelles follow.
If he does go, he’s certainly earned the right.
