Matty Longstaff has joined Aberdeen from Newcastle United on a season-long loan.
The midfielder will spend the year north of the border, taking in his first temporary spell away from St James’ Park.
Longstaff’s contract was set to expire next summer, but fortunately he’s extended his deal until 2022 before moving to the Dons.
The 21-year-old has had a tough year or so since breaking into the Newcastle first-team.

Injuries handed him his chance in 2019, and my word did he take it.
On his Premier League debut, Longstaff started alongside his brother and scored the winner in front of the Gallowgate against Manchester United. It was the stuff of dreams.
Sadly, he hasn’t kicked on since then. Longstaff has received limited first-team opportunities, and is yet to feature this season.
Now he’ll be playing in the Scottish Premiership, where hopefully he gains some valuable experience.
Ideally he’ll return in 2022 ready to play a part for Newcastle, whether it’s in the Premier League or the Championship…

Longstaff will be playing for former Toon midfielder Stephen Glass, who represented the Magpies between 1998 and 2001.
Some Newcastle fans are split on whether or not this is a good move for the midfielder. Personally, I think it’s a great move. He’ll get the minutes he needs, and should be playing in a team that is competing at the right end of the table.
However, some supporters are questioning the standard of Scottish football.
As for the Aberdeen fans, they are absolutely delighted with their latest signing.
A lot of them have been reacting to the news on Twitter, celebrating the arrival of Matty Longstaff at Pittodrie.
