Sean Dyche has been speaking on the future of one of his Everton players with Newcastle United understood to be tracking talented midfielder ahead of the summer.
Newcastle’s chief scout Steve Nickson was in attendance on Saturday to watch over Everton’s match against Man United amid links with Amadou Onana.
Speaking after the game, Dyche made it clear that Everton are not in the business of selling players despite their recent financial issues which suggested they could have to move someone on.
Newcastle want to sign exciting midfielder this summer
Onana joined the Premier League club in 2022 for around £33m and has been one of Everton’s best players in the last two years or so, showing real potential in the midfield.
Dyche will obviously be wanting to keep hold of his top player should they avoid relegation to the Championship this season, but there is sure to be a lot of interest in the 22-year-old this summer.
Newcastle are just one of the clubs who are interested in the midfielder, and there could be little that Everton can do if other teams who can offer European football come in for him as well.
The Magpies are known to be in the market for a more defensive minded midfielder having seen their defence expose fairly often this season, though it’s unclear how much they will really have to spend in the upcoming transfer window.
After the game, Dyche said: “We don’t want to sell any good players. It’s as simple as that. We’re not in the business of trying to sell players.
“You only sell players if you have to sell players or there’s a problem. There’s no problem, therefore I’m just hoping we don’t need to sell players. At the minute, we certainly don’t so we will see.”

Newcastle don’t need to put all of their budget into Onana
Because of his talent and age, Onana is likely to cost a hefty fee that could swallow up most of Newcastle’s budget given they are limited massively because of the Premier League’s financial rules.
It doesn’t exactly feel like a high priority position at the minute with Sandro Tonali set to return and news emerging that Joelinton is now close to agreeing a new long-term contract with the club.
Adding Onana into the mix would give Newcastle a very strong midfield in terms of quality in depth, but it would give Eddie Howe a bit of a selection headache and likely cause some issues for those who think they should be starting every week.
