A senior Newcastle United figure was spotted in the stands of a Premier League game as their interest in two exciting talents continues.

Newcastle are understood to be after a new midfielder in the summer to bring a bit more defensive stability in the time while they also want to bring in a new star centre-back to potentially take over from Fabian Schar.

That could be exactly why, according to Lee Ryder on X, Steve Nickson was in the stands to watch Man United vs Everton to get a closer look at Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana who Newcastle have previously shown interest in.

Branthwaite has really stood out as one of Everton’s best players in what has otherwise been another disappointing season for the Toffees who remain in a relegation battle after yesterday’s 2-0 defeat.

The Carlisle-born defender has proved to be a top Premier League talent this year and has attracted a lot of interest from some big teams who will be watching him closely this summer.

Newcastle previously showed interest in the centre-back in January, though they never had the funds to even consider making a bid, and it’s believed that they had the chance to sign him for just £1m back in 2020.

Now, it looks like the 21-year-old could cost around £100m as Everton look to solve their financial problems by cashing in on Branthwaite’s exciting form which has seen the likes of Real Madrid take note.

Onana destined for a big move this summer

Onana will no doubt be in high demand this summer as a number of top teams are keeping a close eye on the midfielder who has really impressed in the last couple of years at Goodison Park.

Chelsea are one team who are known to be keen on the 22-year-old and have already opened up negotiations, but that doesn’t mean Newcastle don’t stand a chance in the coming months.

The Magpies will be hoping that they can offer European football next season should they make it into the top seven by the end of the campaign, though Champions League is now likely out of reach.

Should they want to make a bid for Onana it looks like he could cost them around £60m which would be a huge chunk of their budget, so it all depends on how much of a priority it is to sign a new midfielder.
