One Newcastle United player now looks like he could be unavailable for the rest of January after picking up a new injury.
Newcastle have suffered an unexpected number of injuries this season and though they were starting to turn a corner coming into 2024, but they will now have to deal with a new concern for Joelinton.
The Brazilian was forced off in the derby victory over Sunderland on Saturday and a new report from The Athletic suggests that he could now miss the rest of January and potentially beyond.
Newcastle’s injury crisis continues into 2024
After getting back the likes of Dan Burn, Sven Botman and Joelinton himself from injury, Newcastle and Eddie Howe may have thought the worst of it was over and with fewer fixtures now, they could soon get back to a full squad.
However, that still doesn’t look like it’s going to be happening any times soon with Joelinton now looking like he’ll miss the next three games and potentially more depending on the injury.
The report adds that the £40m midfielder was due to have a scan yesterday to reveal the extent of the injury, and because he’s already suffered three hamstring problems this season there is real concern that he could face a lengthy spell out.
Newcastle also still have Harvey Barnes, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy out with injuries, but there is hope that they can return by the end of January and the team can get back to being close to fully fit.

Newcastle will really miss Joelinton in January
In games where Joelinton has been ruled out through injury Newcastle have really missed his physical presence with the games against Luton and Chelsea being the most recent examples.
The 27-year-old combines really well with teammate Bruno Guimaraes and Howe will certainly miss what he brings to the table in the games against Manchester City, Fulham and Aston Villa.
With the fixtures looking a little kinder as they head out of January, the hope is, of course, that Joelinton will have recovered from his injury ready to go on a great run of form to drag Newcastle up the Premier League table.
