Newcastle United could have a transformative summer transfer window – if they sell one of their biggest players.
That is the nature of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, as Newcastle United found out during the January transfer window. The Magpies were not able to make any senior signings unless they moved someone on, but all the talk of exits had fizzled out by deadline day.
Eddie Howe‘s squad did not receive a makeover in January, but it will likely look very different next season. The club will go again in the transfer market, while they might have to fend off interest in one of their top players.
Bruno Guimaraes is a man in demand, although he has hit back at claims he could leave St James’ Park. However, there is the looming threat of his £100million release clause, and a sizeable exit like that would allow Newcastle to reinvest heavily.
Alas, that is currently not the plan.
Newcastle United’s plan is to keep Bruno Guimaraes
According to iNews, Newcastle’s preference is to keep Bruno Guimaraes at the club this summer and raise funds in other ways.
They add that the 26-year-old is a hugely ambitious player, but state that he has not spoke to anyone at the club about achieving his goals away from Newcastle United. He has not spoke about leaving the club, as it stands.

Newcastle should build the team around Bruno
That is excellent news, as Bruno is the player who Newcastle should build their team around.
Selling him would allow the club to reinvest heavily, but Bruno is invaluable. It would be incredibly difficult to replace him, and we should do all we can to ensure we don’t have to.
He is our talisman and our midfield maestro, and it is good to see that the club are committed to keeping him at St James’ Park – and that he is not agitating for a move right now.
