Newcastle United’s pre-season preparations are officially underway.

While plenty of Newcastle United players have been away on international duty, the rest of Eddie Howe’s squad are reporting for duty ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

One day after it was reported that Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi are leaving Newcastle, Eddie Howe welcomed his players back to the training ground.

Those players who have not been competing at a major international tournaments are back at Darsley Park, with the Magpies’ first friendly set to take place in just over a fortnight. Newcastle face Hull City on July 27th.

Joelinton back for Newcastle training

The team that Howe picks to face Hull City could include Joelinton, who has been filmed returning to Tyneside and linking back up with his Toon teammates.

The 27-year-old embraced Eddie Howe in the manager’s office, with the Toon boss no doubt looking forward to working with Joelinton again. The Brazil international was injured for a lot of last season, while there were fears that he would have to be sold due to his contract situation.

But now Joelinton is fit, and he has committed his future to Newcastle United. He is going nowhere, and looks ready to get back to work.

Joe Willock returns after injury

And the same goes for Joe Willock, who is also back at the Newcastle United training ground.

During the video that the club posted, Joelinton is seen giving Willock a hug, with the 24-year-old returning after missing the end of last season due to injury.

It was a torrid campaign for the £25million man. Willock missed 37 games in total, with a hamstring problem then an Achilles issue ruining what could have been another special season in black and white.

But the hope is that Willock is now over his injury problem, and we will soon find out how fit he is when the Magpies start playing in friendlies.

Newcastle’s three new signings arrive

As well as the familiar faces, there are also some new ones.

The Magpies have made three summer signings so far, all of which have started pre-season with their new club.

Lloyd Kelly has been pictured working in the gym, while Newcastle’s two new goalkeepers – Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy – are also in attendance.

It is great to see pre-season begin, but it will be a while before Howe has a full squad to work with. Bruno Guimaraes has only just been eliminated from the Copa America, while Kieran Trippier and Anthony Gordon have made it all the way to the Euros final with England.

They will likely get an extended break ahead of the 2024/25 season.
