23-year-old Newcastle player thinks he can improve his stamina this season

Alexander Isak had a debut season to remember in a Newcastle United shirt, and he has now delivered an ominous warning to the rest of the Premier League.

The 23-year-old netted 10 goals in 22 league appearances last season, as he excelled during an injury hit campaign.

He missed the majority of pre-season after arriving late in the window, then his progress was hindered further by a lengthy muscle injury.

Now he is fully fit, and enjoying/enduring his first pre-season under Eddie Howe. And it has been a bright start to the summer for Isak, who has a goal and an assist from his two appearances so far.

The club record signing appears to be in fine form ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, as he looks to build on what was a great start to life on Tyneside.

And now Isak has explained why he can be even better in a black and white shirt.

Isak has spoke to NUFC TV during the club’s trip to America, and was asked if a first proper pre-season with the Magpies will help him improve.

“Yeah, for sure,” he said.

“Obviously last season I did a pre-season in a different country, different culture. Everything was quite different to what it is here.

“Hopefully now here in this heat and with the training sessions that we have and the games, I can get fitter.”

Big season ahead for Newcastle’s number 14

It was magical watching Isak at times last season. Some of the goals he scored were glorious, while his dribbling ability and speed is out of this world – as Everton found out back in April.

Getting double figures was a big achievement for Isak. He effectively averaged a goal every other game, which was impressive considering the number of substitute appearances he made.

But with no injury concerns and a full pre-season under his belt, the striker could really explode this season. As Isak says, he can get fitter than he was, which will make him even more dangerous in the final third.

That is excellent news for Toon fans, who are already in love with Isak after one year. And it could be bad news for Callum Wilson, who might have to do just as well as he did last season to keep pace with the super Swede.
