If Newcastle United really want to sign Khephren Thuram, this summer could be the time to get him.

Khephren Thuram is a long-term target for the Magpies, and was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United during the 2023 summer transfer window.

Toon officials decided to sign Sandro Tonali instead, while missing out on Dominik Szoboszlai did not lead to Thuram arriving either.

The 23-year-old was then on Newcastle’s radar again during the January transfer window, with Eddie Howe needing reinforcements due to Tonali’s ban and injuries to Joelinton and Joe Willock. However, it was decided that bringing in a player like Thuram was too big a risk.

However, he is a player who head of recruitment Steve Nickson likes, and you have to imagine he will at least be an option for Newcastle when the summer transfer window opens.

And if they do decide to make a move for the Nice midfielder, they will be speaking to his new representatives.

That is because, according to Fabrizio Romano, Thuram is now going to be represented by a new agency – the one that also represents his brother Marcus.

Romano wrote on X: “Understand French midfielder Khéphren Thuram has decided to join Sport Cover as new agency, same as his brother Marcus. Thuram turns 23 today — currently under contract at OGC Nice until June 2025.”

The fact that his contract expires in 2025 is very interesting, and means that a decision needs to be made regarding his future.

Given his ability, Nice will surely want to retain his services and extend his contract. But if Thuram wants to take his talents elsewhere then this summer is the time to make a move. Otherwise, Nice could end up losing him for nothing in 2025.

And with just a year to run on his current deal, there is a chance that Newcastle or any other suitor could get a bit of a bargain, depending how desperate the Ligue 1 side are to cash in.

You do wonder if the reason Thuram has changed agent is so that he can manufacture a transfer this summer… He is certainly one to watch.
