Anthony Gordon has been in first-team training for Newcastle United this morning after an injury scare in the victory against Manchester United.

Gordon gave every Newcastle fan a real scare after coming off late in the game against Manchester United with what he described as being a tightness in his hip.

Ben Dinnery at Premier Injuries has now revealed that the winger is in training ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Everton on Thursday night.

Gordon was an unplanned substitution vs Man United

After another brilliant game from the 22-year-old in which he scored the winning goal against Man United, Gordon was brought off for Matt Ritchie in the 97th minute.

Eddie Howe previously revealed that the attacker had felt a tightness in his hip at the end of the game and was immediately brought off to avoid any serious injury.

At the time, Howe was not yet sure the extent of the injury but was hopeful that he would not have to add Gordon to the long list of unavailable players already at Newcastle.

Now, it looks like the £45m January signing will be fit and ready to face his former side Everton in a crucial match at Goodison where Newcastle will be looking to improve their poor away form this season.

Newcastle cannot afford another injury

Nick Pope was the latest name to add to Newcastle’s injury list with the shot-stopper now requiring surgery on his shoulder that will keep him out for up to five months.

Newcastle now have a full starting 11 of players who are sidelined through injury and, while they have still been putting in huge performances against Man United, PSG and Chelsea, they cannot afford another one to Gordon.

There are too many important fixtures coming Newcastle’s way and Gordon has been one of their most reliable figures in the team, especially going forwards with Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak both suffering spells out.

Any kind of knock to Gordon in the next few weeks will likely force the team to look into the January market to cover for al of the unexpected injuries.
