Newcastle United are currently celebrating back-to-back away wins, while there could also be some positive injury news on the way.

There is hope that Harvey Barnes could make his long-awaited return this weekend, having been out of action since September with a foot injury. He is due back in full training later this week.

But the 26-year-old is not the only long-term absentee who could be back soon.

Elliot Anderson offers intriguing injury update

He is a bit further back in his recovery, but Elliot Anderson has offered fans an intriguing update via his official Instagram account.

The 21-year-old has posted a picture to his Instagram story on Wednesday, and it should offer fans some hope that it will not be too long before he is available for selection again.

The image posted by Anderson shows him stood on the grass with his boots on and a ball at his feet, wearing his Newcastle United training gear.

That is massively encouraging, as the midfielder continues his road to recovery from a back problem. Anderson has not featured for Newcastle since October 21st, when he came on off the bench to replace Joelinton against Crystal Palace.

That was Anderson’s 12th appearance of the season, and he will be devastated to have missed so much action. This was looking like his breakout season, and he would have been afforded so many opportunities to start given the Magpies’ injury crisis.

Instead, he has been part of the crisis, missing 21 games so far. It has been a difficult injury for Anderson, but hopefully this update hints that a return is now not too far away.

When the time comes, it will be a massive boost to Eddie Howe. Anderson looks really comfortable at senior level now, while he will add extra creativity either in the middle or out wide as he continues to search for his first ever senior goal.
