Newcastle United may have been handed a big injury boost before taking on Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup later tonight.

Newcastle have at times this season had an entire starting 11 ruled out through injury, but now with just a few months left in this campaign they’re starting to get back to full strength.

As reported by Scott Wilson at The Northern Echo, Eddie Howe could welcome back Elliot Anderson in the first team squad tonight after recovering from a back injury.

Newcastle now flooded with positive injury news

In a season in which Newcastle have really struggled with injuries, things are finally starting to look up for Howe though he won’t want to speak too soon at risk of it happening all over again.

In the game against Arsenal, the two positives outside of the embarrassing defeat was seeing Alexander Isak and Joe Willock back out on the pitch after spells out with the latter making just his fourth Premier League appearance of the season.

Following the game, it was also shared by Howe that both Anderson and Matt Targett were also nearing a return to first-team training in the next week, and it looks like the youngster be be ahead of schedule.

Anderson has missed the last few months with a back injury which came at the very worst time in his young career, but Newcastle will be pleased to have another option in a midfield which has become very stale lately.

Newcastle need a big result vs Blackburn

With no Champions League football next year, it’s imperative for Newcastle and Howe that they don’t let this season completely fizzle out into nothing after the optimism amongst the fans last summer.

Another trip to Wembley would be a huge plus and potentially give Howe a bit more time to work with heading into next season when the pressure will really be on.

It will no doubt be a huge summer for the club once they get everyone back from injury and sort out their transfer plans to try and get back amongst Europe’s elite.

Of course, the Magpies could still yet qualify for the Conference League or even the Europa League if they make a really good late push in the league, but it is just as realistic that they finish in a mid-table position given their latest defensive form.
