Reports emerged today that Newcastle United youngster Lewis Hall had been drafted to train with the senior England side amid several absences, one of which was Callum Wilson.

It was another heart-stopping moment for Newcastle fans who always worry when Callum Wilson gets called up for international duty that something is going to go wrong.

Wilson is notorious for having injury issues but since Eddie Howe came in he seems to have managed him extremely well.

Newcastle fans were concerned about Wilson’s training at the World Cup

However there were fears that his training wasn’t being managed properly when he was on World Cup duty with England which could have contributed to his dip in form upon resumption of the Premier League.

So hearing this morning that Wilson, along with Levi Colwill and Bukayo Saka didn’t train with the squad it was only understandable that those injury fears raised their head.

Thankfully, as reported in The Chronicle, Wilson is fine and actually trained indoors with Coliwll and Saka. The trio are expected to train fully later in the week.

That’s a huge weight of Geordie shoulders, although still with just under two weeks to go until Newcastle’s next game, the anxiety will not truly lift until the Saturday and Wilson’s name is on the team-sheet. Hopefully as a starter.

Wilson should start against Brentford after the break

Wilson’s two Premier League goals this season have come from off the bench and the £20million ex-Bournemouth man has played just over 90 minutes of football over four games.

With figures like that it makes sense to start Wilson against Brentford and either drop Alexander Isak to the bench or push him out wide and maybe put Anthony Gordon on the right instead of Miguel Almiron.

However Eddie Howe does it, Callum Wilson should definitely lead the line at St James’ Park on Saturday 16th September.
