Yankuba Minteh was Newcastle United’s first summer signing but was immediately loaned out to Dutch Eredivisie champions Feyenoord for the season.
Newcastle moved quickly to snap up exciting prospect Yankuba Minteh from Danish side OB Odense for a fee believed to be around £7million.
The Gambian winger was identified as a future star by Newcastle’s scouting network and knew they’d need to move fast to beat other clubs to his signature.
Yankuba Minteh has yet to even see Newcastle city
Despite his raw potential, it was immediately decided that Minteh would spend his first season as a Newcastle player out on loan and a deal was struck with Feyenoord who had already been scouting Minteh before he signed for Newcastle.
It now turns out that the deal moved so quickly that to this day Minteh still hasn’t seen the city of Newcastle.

Speaking to AD.nl (via Sports Witness), Minteh has admitted that he’s loving life at Feyenoord and isn’t sure what the future holds at the end of the season.
“I was able to sign a contract with Newcastle, but I have never seen the city myself,” said Minteh. “The club immediately indicated that I would go to Feyenoord on loan. In Rotterdam I also signed my contract with Newcastle. The club brought all kinds of people over to the Netherlands to ensure that my first weeks went well.
“The rental period is until the end of the season. I hear that there are people who hope that I will stay longer. But that’s looking far ahead.
Minteh has got off to a flying start this season
“It is clear that I like it here. I feel the appreciation of the trainers and supporters. And I feel that I am developing myself under this trainer.”

Newcastle fans will be hoping that Minteh is recalled at the end of this loan period and given his shot in the first-team given that the 19-year-old has so far managed three goals and one assist in seven Eredivisie games this season.
Minteh has also played in both of Feyenoord’s Champions League games this season, so the youngster is gaining all the experience to be a star for Newcastle in the future. Hopefully the very near future.
