There have been a few fresh faces in training as Newcastle United prepare to face Brighton on Saturday.

Lewis Miley is back from injury, with the 18-year-old now over the back injury and broken metatarsal that forced him to miss seven months of action.

Newcastle have also welcomed back Martin Dubravka, who missed the draw with Everton and was not involved in Slovakia’s Nations League fixtures during the international break. He sustained an injury during the Carabao Cup win over Wimbledon, on what was his first appearance of the season.

Eddie Howe is getting some of his injured players back, while he has also called up one of the Magpies’ youth stars to first-team training.

And there has also been an appearance from Anthony Munda, an 18-year-old midfielder who has been making a real impression at youth level.

Munda has been given the chance to train with the Newcastle first-team, and can be seen mixing it up with fellow midfielder Joe Willock.

Toon fans may remember Munda from pre-season, with the teenager appearing off the bench during wins over Hull City and Brest.

Anthony Munda is a local lad with big ambitions at Newcastle

It is great to see another academy player getting the chance to train with Eddie Howe’s team.

Munda is a local lad, having been born in Cowgate. He joined Newcastle United when he was just nine-years-old.

He is a regular for the Newcastle Under-21s, and has one goal to his name this season. That came during a 1-1 draw with Sunderland, in a game that saw Kieran Trippier and Matt Targett play for the young Magpies.

Following that game, Munda spoke to Newcastle’s official website, and admitted that he looks up to the likes of Joe Willock and Joelinton. However, he also wants to ‘surpass’ them.

“It was a great opportunity to play for the first team [in pre-season],” he said.

“I look up to the likes of Joelinton and Joe Willock but, at the end of the day, I want to try and surpass them and make my own place in the first-team squad.”

Joelinton is one of Eddie Howe’s most important players, while Joe Willock can be a difference maker in a Newcastle United shirt. Munda has ambitions to surpass both of those players in black and white, which is a very exciting prospect.

Hopefully Munda benefits from training with the first-team and we get to see more of him in the coming years.
