Jason Tindall’s confirmed absence explained in Brighton vs Newcastle United after QPR links

Jason Tindall is a prominent figure at Newcastle United.

Tindall joined Newcastle United at the same time as Eddie Howe back in November 2021 and has certainly made a name for himself since.

The Newcastle United assistant manager has been the subject of much attention at times. Tindall even became an internet meme at one point, with many onlookers suggesting he’s someone who particularly enjoys the limelight.

To reduce his work down to just being Howe’s assistant, however, would be disrespectful. Tindall is effectively Newcastle’s set-piece coach and has frequently been praised by the players.

Indeed, Tindall took charge of the Newcastle team while Howe was recovering from pneumonia but will not be on the touchline for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Brighton.

Why Jason Tindall is suspended for Brighton vs Newcastle United

Tindall picked up his third booking of the season last weekend as Newcastle beat Ipswich 3-0 at St James’ Park.

As such, he’s been handed a one-match suspension and will not be able to assist Howe on the touchline during the game at the Amex Stadium.

It’s crucial Newcastle get something from the south coast considering the tight race for Champions League qualification, so his absence is certainly a blow.

Reflecting on the decision to give Tindall a yellow card last week, Howe said: “It baffles me why, to be honest, because I was right there and I saw and heard everything.

“To a degree, I think it’s aimed purely at trying to stop Jason managing, but I was the one back in the dugout so I don’t see the issue.”

Eddie Howe reacts after Jason Tindall linked with QPR job

Funnily enough, Tindall has been touted as a potential managerial target for Championship club QPR this week.

However, Howe confirmed he wanted to keep his long-term assistant at the club. Tindall does not have any plans to become a manager again, having been sacked by Bournemouth after replacing Howe back in February 2021.

It must be said that the links do not appear to have much strength in them just yet but Howe stressed just how much he wanted to keep Tindall at the club.

“I know nothing of that, that’s the first I’ve heard of it. I certainly hope not. JT’s been brilliant for me, personally,” he said (via The Chronicle).

“And very highly valued, yeah, so I don’t want him to go anywhere. So an unusual one, transfer news with a member of staff.”
