What Kieran Trippier did after injury blow to Newcastle teammate today

Newcastle United’s pitiful away form continued at Luton Town on Saturday.

Eddie Howe’s side remain with only one win on the road in the Premier League all season as former Newcastle star Andros Townsend scored the only goal of the game.

Their struggles on the road have confused Howe all season and a lacklustre display against a team battling relegation has to be the nadir thus far.

Other than Alexander Isak’s disallowed goal, there was very little to cheer for the travelling support.

As is seemingly the case every game too, Howe was dealt a fresh injury concern.

Jamaal Lascelles was forced off in the first-half and it appeared teammate Kieran Trippier attempted to rally the troops.

Indeed, according to The Athletic, Trippier called the squad together while Lascelles was down injured in an attempt to sort things out after a poor performance up until that point.

Clearly, it did not work and Newcastle continued to labour at Kenilworth Road. If anything the 1-0 scoreline surely only flattered Howe’s side, with Ross Barkley hitting the bar and Martin Dubravka forced into a big save from Elijah Adebayo.

Newcastle news: Away form is a real concern

After the last week or so Newcastle have had, things need to improve generally.

Still, it is the away form that is major concern. While Aston Villa are the only team to have won more home games this season (9 to 8), just Sheffield United have won fewer away trips (0 to 1).

January alone sees Newcastle head to Liverpool, Sunderland and Villa. Lose those three and the season really would be taking a turn for the worse.

It’s difficult to explain why Newcastle are so good at home and so bad away but Howe needs to find a solution. And quickly.
