Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer is furious after the Magpies lost 1-0 to Luton Town on Saturday.
Eddie Howe‘s side travelled to Kenilworth Road with a terrible away record, and it is a record that has not improved.
Former Newcastle player Andros Townsend scored the only goal of the game, with his first half header handing Luton an emotional three points one week after what happened to their captain Tom Lockyer at Bournemouth.
Rob Edwards’ players were tremendous, playing with a level of intensity that Newcastle simply could not deal with.
It was an abject performance from the Magpies, who did have the ball in the net at one point, with Alexander Isak believing he had grabbed an equaliser. However, it was ruled out for offside.
Newcastle did have chances and tried to put Luton under pressure, but in truth it was a terrible showing from a side that has seriously struggled in recent weeks. First we crashed out of the Champions League and the Carabao Cup, now we have been beaten by newly promoted Luton Town.
While the cup exits were unlucky, this was just bad. Howe’s players massively underperformed in a game that they should have had enough quality to win.
But Luton simply wanted it more and bettered Newcastle in every department, much to the disappointment of Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer hammers Newcastle after rotten performance against Luton Town
Following the 1-0 defeat to Luton, Shearer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to give his immediate reaction.
He wrote: “The Toon second best in all areas today. Intensity. Desire. Physicality. Well done Luton. Deserved the points.”
Newcastle were second best against Luton
As Shearer says, Luton were better than Newcastle all over the pitch. The Magpies started slowly and never really recovered.
There were moments when we had good possession and created some decent openings, but overall it was a desperate performance at a time when Howe needed a response from his players.
There was no early Christmas present for the travelling Toon Army, who will now turn their attention to Boxing Day.
Newcastle are in action yet again on Tuesday, as they face Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park. That is a must win game, and the Magpies better show more intensity, desire and physicality than they did in defeat to Luton.
