Newcastle United have been dealt some awful luck on the injury front this season.
Indeed, Newcastle lost Callum Wilson for a significant period of time earlier this week following a pectoral injury sustained against Nottingham Forest and were again dealt a blow against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Fabian Schar managed to play the entirety of the dramatic 2-2 draw but was pictured “wincing in pain” by George Caulkin of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.
The Swiss international was even using his shirt as an impromptu sling for his right arm after taking a knock towards the dying embers of the game.
Still, Schar at least provided something of an update.

According to Caulkin – again on X – Schar left St James’ Park with his wrist bandaged but had confirmed he was “alright.”

Newcastle injury news: Blow after blow
Though its promising to hear Schar speak relatively positively of his injury, it seems Newcastle cannot get through a game without at least a scare right now.
This season has been decimated by injuries. Clearly, they do not excuse players of poor performances but the fact Eddie Howe has had to deal with such a crisis cannot be ignored.
Without their first-choice goalkeeper, either of their senior strikers and a raft of midfielders, Newcastle are patching a team together right now. Players like Matt Ritchie, who have hardly been involved all season, are having to step up.
Thankfully, Jamaal Lascelles has returned after slight issue of his own, so will presumably be able to play against Arsenal next time out if Schar is indeed injured.
Still, that hardly makes up for what a disappointing season its been on the fitness front. Howe has even admitted to making mistakes when it comes to dealing with such problems.
Hopefully next season will be better…
