Newcastle United got a taste of their own medicine on Saturday.
Indeed, despite being much the better side, Newcastle were beaten in the Premier League for only the second time this season in their defeat to Brighton.
Eddie Howe’s side were at their intense best for much of the opening period at St James’ Park but failed to score and came away with nothing.
Ironically, it was the kind of result – from a Seagulls perspective – that Newcastle have been pulling off all season. While it should be noted they did improve after the break, few would doubt the south coast outfit were somewhat fortunate to have taken the lead.
Still, it was up to the hosts to take the initiative. They were so poor in front of goal all afternoon, to the point where Alan Shearer expressed his anger.
Howe, it seems, is looking for answers.
What Eddie Howe will do after Newcastle’s loss to Brighton
According to The Chronicle, a “seething” Howe will seek an immediate inquest into the lack of goals from his team, who have not scored from open play since their defeat at Fulham last month.

Alexander Isak needs dropping at Newcastle
The idea of dropping Alexander Isak would have been ridiculous a few months ago but the Sweden star is doing little to justify his selection as things stand.
While the caveat that he’s just returning from injury should be applied, he’s scored only once this season. That is not a good enough return for a player of his quality.
Callum Wilson, for all his fitness frustrations, must surely come back into the side soon. The striker was reportedly telling people close to him he’d be fit for the game, so hopefully his return is imminent.
Isak needs cover and competition. Newcastle need goals.
